So well written — Charles Highway is not likeable, and Amis's sentences are unfairly funny about that.
I felt more parallels with my own thoughts as a teenager than I'm comfortable admitting. Selfish, quite judgemental, obviously extremely naive — sizing people up like homework, convinced you're the cleverest person in the room. I hope I wasn't that bad; I was probably closer than I'd like.
I laughed, winced, finished in a weekend. Not sure I'd rush back, but I'm glad I read it once.
