Great book — I learnt a lot, especially in my first year when everything felt improvised and slightly terrifying. (My notes called it a handbook; the copy on my shelf is Burke's Companion.)
No grand theory, just answers to questions that actually kept me awake: getting kids to read something hard, surviving marking, the kid who talks brilliantly but writes nothing. Rubrics, discussion moves, annotation — classroom stuff from someone who'd done the job for years.
I still pull it out on Sunday nights when a lesson won't come together. Useful in the way a calm senior colleague is useful.
